A christmas-sy request...

What makes being a Concierge fun? It's when you are sought after to save a little boy's robot toy from 'dying', and getting a non-routine request like setting a christmas tree in the room to surprise the incoming guest's wife.

Oh yes...although rare, but when these requests come up it really gets me all excited!!

Below are some pictures of the christmas tree that I had set up for Mr M.Lim, who requested it via phone all the way from Vietnam, to surprise his wife who will be checking in earlier prior to his arrival. Although I never really did get a feedback or response to how the wife reacted to the tree being in the room, but the self-satisfaction is purely rewarding...

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the robot I saved....it was just a matter of a change of batteries...

The Hotel Concierge: Get the Most Out of Your Luxury Hotel Stay
MaryNicklin, 1:01 pm

Need last-minute dinner reservations at the hottest restaurant in town? A new passport within a matter of hours? A dog sitter or private plane? Or a knowledgeable personal shopper? Hotel concierges at leading luxury hotels can handle all of these requests, and more. Though their services are often overlooked by hotel guests, concierges are the unsung heroes in the hospitality industry, the stylish and savvy superheroes, the ultimate insiders who can offer the best tips about the city. Forbes has the skinny on getting super star service from concierges during your next trip. Call ahead of your reservation and share your itinerary; the concierge will reconfirm your dining reservations, and perhaps score special discounts (on, say, lift tickets in Aspen). And, advises Forbes, if you want access to the best (whether that’s Broadway tickets or nightclub access), “choose your hotel carefully: Your concierge may be only as powerful as the name on the towels.” Don’t forget to tip.

Movements in the Circle.

Lately there has been a lot of movements in the Concierge circle. It all started with our Chef Concierge (CC)Danny leaving the hotel to Cambodia. His position was later filled in by Mr Billy from Le Meridien. Then, Mr Shahrom of Renaissance Hotel left to fill-in Billy's place in Le Meridien. And lastly, Sheraton's CC, Mr Ferhad left to join the Hilton. (his assistant, Mr Azman has been promoted to CC at their sister Starwood property in Langkawi - The Westin)

Apart from all the above, Mr Roslan of Istana has also left (resigned), Mr Gurcharan of Sheraton Subang has made history as the first CC to retire and Mr Awie his assistant has been promoted to replace him; Mr Darshan was promoted to CC at Mutiara Crowne Plaza and lastly, Mr Lamda of Shangri-la Singapore has moved to Sunway Lagoon Resort as the new CC.

A very healthy movement cycle indeed. New faces at new places. New challenges for each CCs. All this has made me want to move somewhere myself. Lets wait and see what the future holds....hope it's all sweet...

Anyway, to all those newly promoted or newly 'moved' CCs, all the best!!!
