The New Chef Concierge
So, the new Chef Concierge, Billy, has been on board with us for almost 3 months now. How is he? obviously he is an experienced person and very comfortable in his field. I also later found out that he was one of the pioneers of the Les Clefs d'Or, Malaysian Chapter. And thank god we can work well together.
It's funny how, when thinking back, the times before his arrival. The plans we made as a team to counter any changes that the new guy would come with. And how as if he was an enemy coming in to destroy whatever we have been holding on to...But when he came, although there were changes, but they were not THAT drastic, but I realised, for the good.
It's good to have someone to fall back on to again whenever trouble brews. I feel like a huge boulder has been lifted off my shoulders. However, somehow, I have become invisible to the Front Office Manager (FOM) and the Resident Manager(RM) heavily shadowed by the 2 keys on my new boss's lapels. I can breathe easy now....I'm happy...
In a way, its good having Billy on board to share his experience. Especially when the hotel is currently going through a phase where we're transforming from good to GREAT, the pressure on everyone to perform is very high. A lot of changes need to be made, both through the hardware and also the personnel attitude. Thus, having an 'outsider' coming in has its advantages. For me, I get to learn his management style and observe how he handles certain similar situations that I have encountered before.
So far, we have been working well with each other. And there seems to be some mutual respect among the two of us. Hopefully there isn't a darkside to this....
Although I am still doing partially the Chef Concierge's tasks like churning out reports, going to Division meetings, etc, at least I am back on shifts, and most of the time I get to go home at least after 10hrs at the hotel, which is WAAAAAY better than it was when I was the acting Chef. I have more time at the counter meeting guests, helping with their requests and queries, and most importantly, get to spend time with the family!!!
